Portraits of residents of Sanguiana, Guinea. I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guinea, West Africa, from 2011 to 2014. Most of these images are of the people of the village where I lived for those 2+ years. Sanguiana is a small rural village in the dusty region of Upper Guinea where people live off the land, families are close, and human ingenuity and celebration are visible every day. Morikoba chairs the health center management committee; Fatima watches costumed hunters dance and read fortunes in the festival of Serewa; A farmer returns home from his fields; Bai, 17, bakes 300 baguettes each day. “The taste of that bread, steaming fresh from the oven, was my first welcome to the village, and the last thing I took from village on the ride home”.
